About this tool

This calculator estimates Chinese individual income tax on salary income. From your monthly gross pay it subtracts the standard threshold (¥5,000), your social insurance and housing fund contributions, and any special additional deductions (children's education, housing loan interest or rent, elderly care, and so on) to arrive at the taxable income. It then applies the seven-band monthly progressive table — 3% up to ¥3,000, then 10%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35% and 45% — using the quick deduction constants (0, 210, 1410, 2660, 4410, 7160, 15160) so each band is charged only on the portion of income within it. Insurance and fund can be entered as the standard rates (pension 8%, medical 2%, unemployment 0.5%, housing fund 12%) or as a single fixed amount.

Since 2019 China withholds tax cumulatively across the whole year rather than month by month, so real payslips shift between brackets as the year progresses; this tool applies the monthly-equivalent brackets to one month as a fast approximation, not an official filing. Rates and the housing-fund cap vary by city, so treat the defaults as a starting point. Everything is computed locally in your browser and no figures are uploaded.
